Summary: Death of an Art Dealer... And three life lessons learned well.

The first time the boy meets a real life FBI agent, he isn’t a criminal yet. He isn’t a con artist or an art thief, he is a child, barely ten years old, and his name isn’t Neal Caffrey.
The boy doesn’t cry during his statement. He is quiet instead, and polite, sitting in the interrogation room with a legal pad in his hands; it’s clutched in his left hand so firmly that the paper crinkles on the corners while he draws on it with his right, guiding an almost dried out felt pen over the grainy paper in harsh edgy lines that imitate the roughness, the brutality of the events that he has witnessed that day, sketching a puddle, grey in grey instead of blood red, and lying in it the unrecognizable figure of his father, the art dealer, beaten to death, while his son was hiding in the closet, the only witness to this act that proves to him how far people are willing to go for art.
That is the first lesson that the child learns that week.
The second one is, that it’s incredibly easy to create a new identity, if one knows how. They change who he is twice that day. Once to a WitSec Control ID, three letters and four digits: WC-1134-A, and then, later, when he is allowed to go with the social services lady to his new home, they tell him his new name.
He is Neal Caffrey from that day on, but not always, and certainly not forever. Neal thinks it’s a lie, this new name; he thinks this entire new life is a lie.
And he thinks that maybe, if even the FBI says it’s okay to do this, it isn’t such a bad thing, lying.
That’s lesson number three.
